Joey will be racing Minicups and Baby Grands with the MMRA racing series in 2008. Our first race this year will be a triple header at Bronson Motor Speedway in Florida the week of 12 February. Joey is looking forward to the season getting underway soon so he can quit working on the cars every night in the garage.

Speed Week in Florida--We went to Florida for speedweek back in February and had a great practice day. For Minicups we were running right up front.  Race day we qualified second for the first race. We started out great and got caught up by a lap car that spun out for the fifth time and didn't apply the brakes and slide down into Joey. It took the entire right front out of the car and Joey couldn't finish. We had really bad news when we couldn't get all the parts we needed to get the car back together right. We went back out on day two and qualified 2nd again but we were 4 tenths of a second slower. Joey still finished second. Day three we got the car a little better and qualified second again but hadn't really gained any speed. With about two laps left we got taken out by a car that drove into the corner to hard and destroyed the rear end. We spun off the track and back on to the track in to on coming traffic. Unfortunately, we collected a couple cars in the process. They tried to get him to pull into the middle based on his left front tire pointing the wrong way but he lined up and continued as he had lapped several of the remaining cars and managed a fifth place finish.

Baby Grand was another story. We spent the practice day learning the car as it was the first time Joey had really raced the car. We learned a lot. We missed race one based on Joey having to have his minicup towed back to the pits. By the time he got in to his Baby grand the race had already started. Day two we qualified 6th and had the three spin rule put us in the middle of the track. Day three Joey learned how to get the car through the corner and did much better. He managed to work his way up to third then started to drop as he became extremely tired and fell to sixth.

We had a great time and enjoyed all the racing but had hoped for a better week of results. Bottom line we had fun.

2008 out look

Joey had a great second year of racing in minicups. When we look back at 2006 he had a limited race schedule and finished 21st in the nation. For 2007 Joey had a full race season and finsihed 3rd in the nation for MMRA Future Stars. We are looking for another successful year in the minicup as he will be focused on Future Stars, but will run several Open class races as well. Our Baby Grand schedule will have to be limited based on the lack of local racing opportunities in Ohio. The nearest track that runs a regular weekend program is BeechBend Speedway in Bowling Green Kentucky. We will make a few trips but with gas prices it won't be often.

Lacie will not be racing this year. She has decided to take off a year and pursue other interests. We are hopeful she will be back for 2009.
